Wooden door with a dark lever handle and empty round bore, beside a deadbolt, latch, screws and screwdriver on a case.

Locksmith in Halton Hills, OntarioWinter is hardon locks. We know.

Freeze-thaw swells doors, road salt eats at brass, and a cylinder that was fine in October seizes in February. We free jammed locks without forcing them, adjust doors that have shifted, and use lubricants that stay workable well below zero.

From the shop

Honest advice about your locks.

Our habit is to explain as we go. You will hear why the strike is being moved, what the new pins do, and which of the three keys on the counter is the one that now opens everything. It slows the job by a few minutes and it means you leave the visit understanding your own door, which we think is part of the service.

  • A look before a verdictWe inspect the door, frame and lock before suggesting anything. Diagnosing from the driveway is how people end up with parts they did not need.
  • Two or three real choicesWhere there are sensible alternatives we explain them side by side, including the option of doing less than you expected.
  • The job finished properlyTested, aligned, cleaned up and demonstrated. We do not consider a lock done until you have turned the key yourself.

Locksmith services

From lockouts to master keys

We split our work into emergency, residential, automotive and commercial, but plenty of jobs sit between them. A landlord's rekey is residential work done with commercial thinking. A car key made in a driveway is automotive work with a home visit. Ask, and we will place it.

Change or Rekey Locks

Who has a key to your house right now? If you have to think, a rekey is worth considering.

  1. Two detached brass lock cylinders and four house keys on a wooden counter. — Lock Rekeying, Halton Hills
Lock RekeyingOne key for the front door, another for the back, a third for the side door into the garage, and a fourth for the shed. You stand on the step every evening flipping through them in the dark, trying each one until…
  2. Person holding a silver-colored lock beside an open wooden door with exposed circular holes and a latch at its edge. — Deadbolt Installation, Halton Hills
Deadbolt InstallationSomeone tried the door last winter. The frame took it, but the strike plate is bent, one screw hole is stripped, and the bolt sits in the pocket at a slight angle.
  3. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Halton Hills
Lock Replacement & UpgradeEvery morning the front door key needs the same little dance: push in, lift, wiggle, turn. It has been getting worse for a year, and this week it took three tries in the cold before the deadbolt finally gave.
  4. Person holding a long door handle and rectangular lock case beside an open wooden door with exposed hardware recesses. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Halton Hills
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceSomeone painted the door years ago without removing the hardware. The faceplate, the strike and the little thumb-turn are all under several coats, the deadbolt scrapes when it moves, and the knob is stiff enough to…
  5. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Halton Hills
Smart Lock InstallationThe rental turns over every few months and each time you drive across town to swap keys, then wonder whether copies were made. A lock with codes you can set and erase from your phone would end that cycle.
  6. Pale blue garden gate with a black lever latch between light stone pillars. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Halton Hills
Gate & Building Entry LocksA visitor buzzes from the panel downstairs, someone presses the button by the door, and nothing happens. The electric strike on the lobby door used to click open on cue; now it stays silent, and residents are propping…
  7. Detached threaded cam lock and mounting washer on a workbench in front of closed mail compartments. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Halton Hills
Mailbox Lock ReplacementSomeone tried to pry the little door on the mailbox open with a screwdriver, and though the mail sitting inside is untouched, the lock now sits crooked in its hole and the key barely catches when it is turned.

Commercial

Commercial Locks

Commercial locksmithing is as much about planning as it is about hardware. Who needs to get where, what happens when a key goes missing, how the building is locked at night.

Deadbolt Installation

You bought a keypad deadbolt online and pulled the old one off, only to find the hole in the door is a different size and the bolt latch sits at a backset the new kit does not list. The door is now open and the box is on the counter.

Which fix fits?

Your smart lock stopped responding and the app shows nothing. The usual fix

UsuallyCheck power and pairing before replacing anything.

WhyDead batteries and dropped connections are the usual culprits; the mechanical key still gets you in meanwhile.

The sliding patio door has only the little flip latch. The usual fix

UsuallyAdd a keyed patio bolt or a foot lock.

WhyA secondary bolt pins the door to the frame so it cannot be lifted or forced.

You want a lock on the home office door for privacy. The usual fix

UsuallyA keyed or privacy-grade interior lockset.

WhyInterior doors take lighter hardware; we match the rest of the house and the existing bore.

You run a home office with client files and equipment, and your insurer has asked what kind of lock is on the door. The usual fix

UsuallyHigh Security Locks

WhyUpgrading to high security rarely means new doors or a big disruption.

UsuallyCommercial Rekeying

WhyRekeying is also a chance to decide how the keys should work, not simply to change them.

The office key ring has become the org chart. The usual fix

UsuallyMaster Key System Design

WhyMany commercial properties end up with keys copied from other keys over years of staff changes, until nobody can say with confidence what a given key actually opens.

How a visit goes

Commercial rekeying changes the pins inside a business's existing lock cylinders so that a new key operates them and every earlier key stops working, while the hardware itself stays on the door. The locksmith works from a list of the openings the business controls and the people who need to pass…

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.

    Talking through how you live

Who comes and goes, whether you want codes or phone access, how the door is used in winter. The answers shape which lock suits you and how it should be set up.

  2. 2 of 3

    Fitting it to the door

We check the door alignment before mounting anything, because a smart lock needs a door that closes freely. Then we install, wire or pair it and set the first codes with you.

    Showing you the controls

We walk through adding and removing codes, changing batteries and what to do if the electronics ever sulk. You leave able to manage it yourself.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 46%Homes of every age

About 46% of homes in Halton Hills were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

In neighbourhoods with a mix of older and newer homes, the finishes on the doors vary widely: aged brass, satin nickel, matte black. A locksmith serving such an area keeps a range of finishes so replacement hardware suits each house.

  • 73%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 73% of homes in Halton Hills (2021 Census).

Where most homes are detached houses, each one has several exterior doors: front, side, back, garage entry, sometimes a walkout. Getting them all onto one key is the most requested job, and it usually takes a single visit.

Questions we hear most

(289) 670-9706

What information should I have ready before the locksmith arrives?

A list of the doors and other locks you want included, a copy of the lease or the property manager's contact, every existing key you can find, and a rough idea of who needs to open what. Note which doors, if any, are interchangeable cores and where the control key is. Knowing your quiet hours and who opens up in the morning helps the locksmith plan the order of work and the key handover.

Will every old key stop working once you are done?

Every old key that operated a cylinder included in the plan will stop working, and the locksmith proves it by trying old keys at each door before leaving. Old keys keep working only at openings you chose to leave alone, which are written on the chart so there is no confusion. If a master key existed, it is tested too, since a forgotten master is the most common way an old key stays alive.

How often should a business change its keys as a matter of routine?

There is no fixed interval. Rekey on events rather than on a calendar: a key not returned, a lease change, a break-in, a renovation crew finished, or a key count that no longer matches the register. Businesses with a good register and a restricted keyway often go years between rekeys because nothing prompts one. A yearly check of the register against the keys on the hook is the habit that tells you when the time has come.

What information helps before the visit?

A photo of each door's lock from inside and outside, the type of door, whether there is glass nearby and roughly how many keys are in circulation. For a business, a sketch of the doors and who needs to reach each area saves a great deal of time. Mention any door that sticks, has been forced or has a closer or push bar on it. With that, the locksmith arrives with the right formats and a plan to discuss.
